JustRandom

Random Pair Generator

Shuffle a list into pairs with clear handling for one unpaired entry.

Create random pairs

Every valid entry is used once. With an odd count, the final shuffled entry is shown as unpaired.

0 valid items

Use 2 to 200 items and 100 characters per item. Blank lines are ignored.

How to create random pairs

  1. Enter at least two people or items, one per line.
  2. Generate to shuffle and divide the entries into pairs.
  3. Review any explicit unpaired entry, then copy the assignments.

Practical pairing use cases

Random pairs can set up classroom exercises, buddy check-ins, workshop discussions, casual games, and partner assignments where groups must contain exactly two entries.

Unlike Random Team Generator, this tool does not ask for a team count or distribute entries into larger groups.

Pairing rules and privacy

Blank lines are ignored, surrounding whitespace is trimmed, and duplicates remain separate entries. Up to 200 items are processed locally. Neither the list nor pair results are saved, uploaded, placed in URLs, or sent with analytics.

Frequently asked questions

How does random pairing work?

The tool shuffles every valid entry, then groups adjacent entries into pairs. Each list position is used exactly once.

What happens with an odd number of items?

The final shuffled item is labeled Unpaired. It is never dropped or silently duplicated.

Is this the same as Random Team Generator?

No. This tool always creates groups of two, while Random Team Generator distributes participants across a chosen number of larger teams.

Are duplicate names allowed?

Yes. Each non-blank line is a separate entry, even when two lines contain the same text.
