JustRandom

Random Sample Generator

Select a configurable random subset from a line-by-line list.

Select a random subset

Add one item per line, then choose how many distinct entries to sample.

0 valid items

Use up to 200 items and 100 characters per item. Blank lines are ignored.

The sample cannot be larger than the number of valid items.

How to select a random sample

  1. Paste or type one item per line.
  2. Choose a sample size that does not exceed the valid-item count.
  3. Generate and copy the selected subset.

When a subset is the right result

Use a sample to choose several survey records for review, select workshop prompts, pick multiple volunteers, or create a smaller practice set from a longer list.

List Randomizer returns every input in a new order. This tool stops after selecting the requested subset, while preserving duplicate lines as separate entries.

List rules and privacy

Blank lines are ignored, surrounding whitespace is trimmed, and casing is preserved. Up to 200 items are accepted, with 100 characters per item. Inputs and results remain in the current browser session and are not persisted, transmitted, or placed in URLs.

Frequently asked questions

What is a random sample?

A random sample is a subset selected from a larger list. This tool gives each entered list position a chance to be included.

Can I choose multiple items?

Yes. Set the sample size from one through the number of valid list entries.

Are sampled items repeated?

No list position is selected twice in one sample. Identical text can still appear twice when it was entered on separate lines.

How is this different from Random Name Picker?

Random Name Picker chooses one result. Random Sample Generator returns a configurable multi-item subset without returning the whole list.
